Why I Keep Going Back to Esquimalt Lagoon With a Drone

Most mornings, I’m sitting at my desk when the sky starts doing something interesting.

The nice thing about running Vancouver Island Drones this close to Esquimalt Lagoon is that if I turn my head, see a bit of colour breaking through the clouds, and think well shit, I should probably go fly, I can be there in less than ten minutes.

That’s exactly what happened this morning.

Heavy cloud, a narrow strip of orange on the horizon, calm water, and just enough light to make the whole place look a little dramatic.

The Air 3S went up, the sky did the rest.

That’s probably why the lagoon keeps showing up in so much of our work at Vancouver Island Drones. It’s close, it changes constantly, and every once in a while it hands you a morning like this.
